Stop Bill 7!

Pallister's Conservatives are trying to undermine the rights of workers by pushing Bill 7 through the legislature. The bill would scrap the current card check system of allowing automatic union certification when a super-majority -- 65 per cent -- of employees sign union cards. Similar legislation was introduced last year by Stephen Harper's Conservatives at the federal level but is now being repealed.

Bill 7 is a step backwards for labour relations in Manitoba, and must be stopped!

Statement by Interim NDP Leader Flor Marcelino on the Passing of Jim Prentice

It is with great sadness that we learned today of the death of Jim Prentice. On behalf of the Manitoba NDP caucus, I want to offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Prentice. Mr. Prentice was a tireless and dedicated worker for the people of Alberta in his time as premier and for all Canadians when he served as a federal cabinet minister. His passing is a great loss, not just for his family and friends, but for all Canadians. He was a true statesman and a great Canadian.

Pallister Government Delays its Own Legislation To Muzzle Voices of Public & MLAs: Lindsey

The Pallister government is intentionally delaying introducing its own anti-labour bill in order to limit the time the public and members of the Legislative Assembly can voice their concerns, NDP MLA Tom Lindsey said today.

“Manitobans deserve a debate on Bill 7,” Lindsey said. “The only reason to delay introducing it is to muzzle the voices of Manitobans and members of the Legislative Assembly who know this anti-labour legislation is going to make it harder for workers to improve conditions in the workplace.”
