Manitoba Legislature Votes Unanimously to Accept NDP Proposals for Improved Fairness in CPP

An NDP amendment to a government motion to ensure fairness in the Canada Pension Plan for women and persons with disabilities passed unanimously in the Manitoba legislature today.

“Women and persons with disabilities should not be penalized for circumstances beyond their control,” said NDP MLA Jamie Allum, who introduced the amendment. “By calling for a drop-out provision in the expanded CPP program, Canada’s pension system will be fairer for all Canadians.”

Pallister embarrasses Manitoba on national stage

Yesterday, Premier Brian Pallister and his Finance Minister embarrassed Manitobans on the national stage by not signing the agreement on an affordable and sustainable expansion of the Canadian Pension Plan, Finance Critic James Allum said today.

“Manitobans are embarrassed and disappointed that the Pallister government did not choose to set a tone of partnership and sound decision-making with other provinces,” said Allum. “The Conservatives chose to side with big business instead of hardworking families, women, seniors and minimum wage earners.”
