Winnipeg-based comedian Lara Rae has been confirmed as emcee for the Manitoba NDP Leadership Convention Dinner, President David Woodbury announced today.
"Lara Rae is one of Winnipeg's finest comedic talents," said Woodbury. "As a strong voice for the arts and LGBTTQ* communities and proud member of our party, we are excited to have her host our Leadership Convention Dinner featuring guest speaker Dr. David Suzuki."
Lara Rae is the co-founding Artistic Director of the Winnipeg Comedy Festival. She was the Just For Laughs Homegrown National Champion in 2000, an award-winning television and radio writer, and one of the developers of the international hit show Little Mosque on the Prairie. Lara also holds the record for the most losses on CBC's The Debaters.
"Lara Rae and Dr. Suzuki are both well-known for their insightful commentary on important social justice issues," added Woodbury. "We look forward to having them at our event and taking part in this important celebration as we prepare to elect our next Leader."
The Manitoba NDP Leadership Convention Dinner takes place on Friday, September 15 at the RBC Convention Centre located at 375 York Ave in downtown Winnipeg. In addition to Lara Rae and Dr. Suzuki, the event will feature the party's leadership candidates Steve Ashton and Wab Kinew.
