NDP Calls on Pallister Government to Honour Vow To Build Personal Care Homes

The NDP is calling on the Pallister government to honour its promise to quickly build 1,200 personal care home beds to meet the growing needs of families and communities, Health Critic Matt Wiebe said today.

“In his mandate letter to the minister, the premier directed him to ‘fast-track the construction of 1,200 new personal care home beds’ but not one new bed is underway a year later,” Wiebe said. “Instead of action, the health minister has thrown roadblocks in the way of any construction, shutting down PCH construction across the province.”

NDP calls on Pallister government to come clean on health cuts

Today, the NDP is calling on the Pallister government to be transparent and honest about cuts it’s making to health-care services across the province, Health Critic Matt Wiebe said.

“The Pallister government has ordered regional health authorities to make deep cuts but has refused to tell families what those cuts will be,” Wiebe said. “We call on the premier to be honest and tell families exactly what services will be cut and who will be affected.”

Pallister government votes against NPD bill to fight fentanyl crisis

Today, the Pallister government voted down an NDP bill to fight the Fentanyl crisis that would have limited the ownership and possession of pill presses, Health Critic Matt Wiebe said today.

“Manitobans are dying from fentanyl and carfentanil overdoses and we should do everything we can to keep pill presses out of the hands of dealers,” Wiebe said. “Why would the Pallister government vote against a bill to limit ownership and possession of pill presses?”

Pill presses are cheap and easy to obtain and dealers are using them to make pills laced with the deadly drugs, Wiebe noted.

Pallister Government Breaks Promise to Release Review of Health-Care System: Wiebe

The Pallister government is hiding a review of the province’s health-care system it promised to make public and is running roughshod over the right of Manitobans to know what cuts and changes it’s planning, NDP Health Critic Matt Wiebe said today.

“The government has had this review of the health-care system in its hands for weeks, but Health Minister Kelvin Goertzen won’t allow Manitobans to know what’s in it or what their plans are,” Wiebe said. “Once again, Pallister and his minister are reneging on their promise to be transparent and accountable.”
